Metamorphoses of the Circle

Project

Metamorphoses of the Circle presents the encounter of a musician and a hula-hooper. The circle represents both the undulating movement in which the circus performer’s body navigates, and the movement that the violist creates with her instrument.

The visible circle(s) that Sylvain Julien creates with his body and humour are a central figure, unraveling the unexpected territories of Hula Hoop by juggling one to ten hoops seamlessly. And the circles, invisible but audible, that Cecile Brossard’s sound draws, lead us from baroque music to contemporary creation through Karl Naegelen’s composition. Adventurous artists, each crossing the border of the other’s territory, sharing a common space of movement. These metamorphoses operate as sensitive variations, paying homage to the essential figure of the circle, a metaphor for the cycle of life.
