Festival Ensemble(s)

Project

Ensemble(s) is a festival dedicated to the music of our time, created in unison by five of the most active partakers in the contemporary creation field.

Together, the ensembles Cairn, Court-Circuit, Multilatérale, Sillages and 2e2m join forces and pool resources, vivacity and ingenuity to give life to the first opus of the Ensemble(s) festival in September 2020.

Over a period of three days, each of the five ensembles will present a personal program, featuring composers of all generations, aesthetics and origins. A sixth concert will bring together all participants around chamber orchestra pieces, two of which will be premiered that night. A first composition has been commissioned to the patron of the festival, the Japanese composer Noriko Baba; another, to the rising composer Théo Mérigeau.

This collective endeavour unites five ensembles for its first edition, but is destined to grow in numbers. It highlights a common will to keep building strongholds for musical expression, enabling to shed its best light on each artist’s imagination and creativity.

Keeping on creating, inventing, innovating, is a form of resistance to the ephemeral nature of things; it gives continuity to that which disappears. But it is also, and most importantly, a quest for the uncanny, one’s gaze necessarily turned towards the future.

Five ensembles join forces to pay homage to four composers, from four
distinct generations and nationalities.
The immense British composer Jonathan Harvey, passed away in 2012 and deserving more light, will be featured along with Japanese composer Noriko Baba, whose work impresses by its refinement. Will also be performed a piece of the young French composer Théo Mérigeau, his experience as a percussionist a strong
resource for his music.
This program, which includes two premieres, is voluntarily eclectic and rich in discovery.
